"Saving an Historical Registered Landmark"
On November 11, 2014 Kendra Van Cleef created the "Save the Dairy Barn at Buhlow Lake" page on Facebook. Within a week there were over 3,000 likes and currently the page is closing in on 11,000 people who LOVE this fantastic icon! At the same time Nathan Martin, Pastor of Christian Challenge and Pineville City Councilman had concerns about the barn and had already inquired about the barn to Mr. Tom David. So with great interest in the barn we have formed a committee to explore possible uses for the barn, cost of restoration and somehow get enough support to get this beautiful piece of history saved from collapse.
The barn is NOT in danger of being demolished, no one wants to destroy it. Our primary concern is the deterioration due to weather, and the lack of a plan for its restoration and use. The committee has met with Ron Williams, the CEO of Central Louisiana State Hospital, and members of his staff. Our Facebook page has the attention of Department of Health Hospital in Baton Rouge! They are aware of our efforts and Mr. Williams has been very helpful and supportive of our cause.
We have formed a non-profit, Save the Dairy Barn at Buhlow Lake, and established the Save the Dairy Barn Fundat the Central Louisiana Community Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 for donations intendedfor the repairs and restoration of the barn. Now that the assessment is done, we have a better idea of which direction to pursue and what the immediate needs are. Here is a link to the final ASSESSMENT
We are processing a COOPERATIVE ENDEAVOR AGREEMENT with DHH and Central at this time so that we can do the repairs and restoration on the Dairy Barn. This is a huge step towards our goal. Once agreement is signed we will need to kick our fundraising in the highest gear.
